Tidy up
Delete what you don't need. Archive what you rarely touch but want to keep. A clean start moves faster and lands cleaner.
Microsoft 365 Migration
We're bringing Thermory USA onto the same system as the team in Estonia. Your email and documents come across for you automatically. Here's what's happening, and the few things we need from you.
Where things stand
Mailboxes and files are being copied over in the background. Keep using Google exactly as you do today.
You'll receive your new Microsoft sign-in details, then start signing into Outlook and OneDrive.
Target: mid-July. We'll confirm the exact date right here, and email you when it's official.
What's happening & why
Thermory USA is moving off Google Workspace and onto Microsoft 365, the same tools the rest of Thermory already uses. Nothing changes about your work today; you keep using Gmail and Google Drive right up until the switch. When it's time, your email, contacts, calendar, and files will already be waiting for you on the Microsoft side.
Here's how today's tools map to the new ones:
| Today (Google) | After the switch (Microsoft 365) |
|---|---|
| Gmail | Outlook |
| Google Drive | OneDrive & SharePoint |
| Docs, Sheets, Slides | Word, Excel, PowerPoint |
| Google Meet | Microsoft Teams |
| Sign in at google.com | Your new Thermory Microsoft account |
Do this now: everyone
Delete what you don't need. Archive what you rarely touch but want to keep. A clean start moves faster and lands cleaner.
Move team files into Google Shared Drives and your personal work into My Drive, so nothing scattered gets left behind.
Until we say the migration is finished, archive emails instead of deleting them. Foldering and archiving carry over; deletions don't.
Why archive instead of delete? Your email is copied to Microsoft, not live-synced. Anything you delete in Gmail after the copy starts will still show up in Outlook, so you'd have to clean it out twice. Archive or file it away and you're fine.
Important: this part is on you
The files on your Desktop, Documents, Downloads, and Pictures live only on your computer. Google never had them, so the migration can't move them for you. Getting them safely backed up is your responsibility.
Anything that belongs to the group should go into a Google Shared Drive now, not sit loose on your desktop.
Open the OneDrive app and turn on backup for your Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folders.
Wait for the green check marks. A backup that's still uploading is not a backup yet.
Keep your machine plugged in, lid open, and set to not sleep so it can finish overnight. (Mac: System Settings → Battery/Lock Screen → turn off sleep while on power. Windows: Settings → System → Power → set sleep to “Never” when plugged in.)
When your machine is wiped and set up fresh, only what's in your OneDrive-backed folders comes back. If a file isn't in those folders and fully synced, it's gone. When in doubt, ask us before your machine is reset.
Signing in
You'll get a brand-new username and password for your Thermory Microsoft account. Sign into Outlook and OneDrive with them. That's it. Nothing to install.
If you have a large mailbox, it downloads over several hours. You'll see your folders and recent mail first. Nothing is missing. To search everything instantly while your computer catches up, use Outlook on the web (web link coming here). It's fully done when you get the “all done” email from us.
Mac users: a bit more to it
So Thermory can manage it securely, your Mac will be erased and re-set-up. The hands-on part is about 1–2 hours, but plan for up to half your day in case of hiccups.
On Windows? Your machine isn't erased. It's simply added to Thermory's management, which is much lighter. Step-by-step details for Windows will be posted here.
After the switch
Open shared company files right in Finder / File Explorer instead of going to Google Drive.
These sync to OneDrive automatically and follow you across your devices.
Team mailboxes (marketing, support, and the like) are signed into separately from your own. We'll send steps.
Set up for you centrally by Thermory Estonia, so you don't need to recreate it.
Stays open for about a month after the switch as a safety net, so nothing feels lost in the handover.
Very large accounts may be split into an online archive so everything stays searchable. Exact steps to reach yours will be posted here soon.

Questions & answers
Your email and Google Drive files come over automatically. You don't move those. The one exception is the files that live only on your computer (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Pictures). Backing those up to OneDrive is on you. See Back up your computer.
Your mailbox is copied to Microsoft, not live-synced. Emails you delete in Gmail after the copy starts still appear in Outlook, so you'd clean up twice. Archiving and foldering carry over cleanly.
No, as long as your local computer files are backed up to OneDrive first. Everything in Gmail and Google Drive is handled for you, and your Google account stays open about a month afterward as a safety net.
No. Large mailboxes download over several hours. You'll see recent mail and your folders first. Use Outlook on the web to search everything instantly in the meantime. It's fully done when you get the “all done” email.
Yes. Work in Google exactly as normal until we tell you the switch is official.
It's handled for you centrally by Thermory Estonia. You don't need to set it up.
No problem. Mail sent to your old @thermoryusa.com address is forwarded to you automatically, so it doesn't matter which one people use to reach you. From here on, you'll simply reply from your new @thermory.com address.
Yes, it's worth it. Give your main customers and vendors a quick heads-up that your email is moving to @thermory.com. Construction sees a lot of email phishing, so a short note now means they won't second-guess your new address, or fall for someone impersonating it, later.
Your Mac gets erased and set up fresh so it can be managed securely. Plan for up to half a day, make sure your OneDrive backup is finished first, and join Shawn's office hours. See Mac users.
The hands-on part is about 1–2 hours, but plan for up to half your day in case of hiccups.
